Pakistan: The next economic tiger

Pakistan: The next economic tiger

I am writing with regard to the article “Pakistan has potential to become a future economic tiger, says US” (Jan. 28). Pakistan has natural resources and now has highly educated professionals in almost every field. The assessment of the US Secretary of State John Kerry is correct.

The Taliban issue will be settled once and for all in the next two to three years. Good relations and trade with India will contribute to the GDP. Pakistan needs progress in: 1) population control; 2) good governance; 3) education of women and their employment to increase per capita income and 4) increase of the export of value added goods.

Why an economic tiger and why not “one of the greatest nations of the world” as was the vision of Muhammad Ali Jinnah the founding father of Pakistan? The road ahead is simple and straight. The people of Pakistan are one of the most gifted nations in terms of brilliance, manpower and resources. The primary prerequisite is political stability and setting up priorities. Jinnah’s priority was Kashmir and all national policy must be defined in this light. His advice was “work, work and work.”  Of all the nations of the world, we have no time to rest.
